L’ORIGINE DU PÉCHÉ
This work serves as an homage to Gustave Courbet’s L’Origine du Monde. In his time, Courbet’s defiant gesture was an act of liberation from the constraints of academic composition and the falsely idealized modes of representation that dominated the artistic establishment. His pursuit of unfiltered realism led to his exclusion from the artistic elite and the Salon.
Courbet’s painting, beyond celebrating the natural beauty of the female form, envisions woman as the cradle of life - a notion embedded in its title.
This purity, however, has been compromised in the twenty-first century; today we tend to forget its essence. My work is titled L’Origine du Péché
- The Origin of Sin - a reflection on this very loss.
