DAEDALUS TRIPTYCH

In the legend of Icarus, he himself embodies rebellion, disobedience, and curiosity. One of the most crucial messages being the reasonable extension of boundaries. In many cases, boundaries have long been established within a framework that feels ideal, even ordinary, yet common discourse remains silent about them. These can range from fundamental, everyday gestures to deep-rooted and corrosive social issues.

In Catholic iconography, naked winged men are defined as angels. These figures symbolize modesty, morality, and sanctity. They can be messengers, avengers, or at times, the “fallen.” Iconographies sometimes born from ideological currents serve to reinforce doctrines, transforming the naturalness of everyday genre scenes into ideological constructs.

This kind of harmful yet sometimes instructive metamorphosis becomes a tool for ideological justification, whether manipulated or pursued with genuine intent by creators. The distortion and exploitation of ancient moral lessons have become commonplace these altered narratives regulate us subconsciously, preventing us from “flying too close” to our desired sun, because we have been conditioned to equate it with failure and weakness.

In Greek mythology, Daedalus is the father of Icarus who survived the fligth.
